Sikkim's High Court exists because Sikkim itself does: it was created on 16 May 1975, the exact day a constitutional amendment merged the former Himalayan kingdom into the Indian Union. With a sanctioned strength of just three judges, it's the smallest High Court in the country by a wide margin — a direct, honest reflection of Sikkim's small population, not an oversight. Sikkim also kept a set of special legal protections for its pre-merger laws and customs, preserved in the Constitution under Article 371F, which this Court applies alongside ordinary law.
