Rajasthan's High Court, formed in 1949 shortly after India's princely states in the region merged into a single new state, absorbed the judicial machinery of several separate royal courts — Jodhpur, Jaipur and Udaipur among them — in the process. It holds one genuine distinction: in 1950, it became the very first High Court in the country authorised to conduct proceedings in Hindi, nearly two decades before the next court (Allahabad) got the same permission. Its seat is Jodhpur, not the state capital Jaipur, which instead hosts its permanent Bench.
