The India Justice Report: how well each state delivers justice, in numbers
The India Justice Report is a free, collaboratively produced ranking of Indian states on how well they deliver justice, and it is built from government data. Tata Trusts started it in partnership with the Centre for Social Justice, Common Cause, the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, DAKSH, TISS-Prayas and the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy. It scores states on four pillars, the police, the judiciary, prisons and legal aid, using budgets, staffing, infrastructure and workload. Picture a school report card for a state's justice system, with the marks showing which pillar is carrying the weight and which is falling short. The first ranking appeared in November 2019 and the second followed in January 2021, and the project has continued since, so look for the newest edition rather than the one linked here. The version I could verify in this round is the 2020 report, hosted by Vidhi.
