Nyaaya: India's everyday laws, explained without the jargon

Nyaaya is a free, open-access website that explains Indian law in plain language, and it is run by a non-profit think tank, not by the government. It was conceived by Rohini Nilekani and incubated at the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, and its aim is to help a person understand the legal shape of a problem, their rights and their duties, before they speak to a lawyer. It says openly that it does not give legal advice. Topics run from legal aid and the Right to Information to filing a First Information Report, and the team works with partner organisations to produce material in regional languages. If you want a first read on how an everyday legal problem works, this is a gentler start than a bare Act.
