DOAJ and the Law Network: two doors to open-access journals

The Directory of Open Access Journals is a free index of journals whose articles are open to everyone, and its law listings are a quick way to find journals you can read without a subscription. Alongside it, the Law Network from the Digital Commons platform collects scholarship that university law schools have deposited in their own repositories, which a Slaw report counted, when it launched, at more than 100,000 articles from 170 institutions. Both are finding tools more than publishers: they point you to the full text wherever it lives. For legal research, they fill the gap between a casebook and a paywalled journal. The Law Network, as that report described it, drew only on American universities, so look elsewhere for scholarship from other countries.
