Karnataka's High Court began in 1884, not as an Indian government institution at all, but as the Mysore High Court — the apex court of the princely State of Mysore, founded a full decade before the Indian National Congress itself existed. It only became "Karnataka High Court," covering the modern, larger state, after the 1956 reorganisation and a 1974 renaming. Today, sitting in the heart of India's tech capital, Bengaluru, it handles a disproportionate share of the country's software, IP and start-up litigation.
