Himachal Pradesh's High Court opened in Shimla in 1971, the day after the hill state won full statehood — and there's a nice bit of circularity here: Shimla itself was the original seat of the undivided Punjab High Court before independence, so the hill station has hosted a High Court, in one form or another, for well over a century. It was also home to a genuine first: Leila Seth, appointed its Chief Justice in 1991, became the first woman ever to lead an Indian High Court.
