National Legal Services Authority (NALSA)
free legal aid, not just free information

NALSA is different from everything else on this list: it's not primarily a database, it's a delivery mechanism for actual free legal representation, guaranteed by the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 to people who qualify (income-based, plus categories like SC/ST, women, children, disaster survivors, and industrial workmen). It also runs Lok Adalats — informal courts that settle disputes by negotiated compromise rather than adjudication. If you need a lawyer and can't afford one, the relevant State or District Legal Services Authority, reachable through NALSA's helpline (15100), is where that request starts.
