Indian Kanoon
The one every law student actually uses

Ask any Indian law student which free case-law site they open first, and the honest answer is almost always Indian Kanoon, not a government portal. Built by a single computer scientist, Sushant Sinha, starting in 2007, it now holds over 1.4 million laws and judgments from the Supreme Court, 24 High Courts, 17 tribunals, Constituent Assembly debates, and Law Commission reports — and it updates faster than most official sources, often carrying a judgment within days of delivery. The "why" matters here: it's free, ad-supported, and has a documented public API, which is why it quietly powers a lot of the legal-tech built on top of Indian law. Insider tip: because it indexes unreported judgments so quickly, use it (not a government portal) when you need something from the last 48 hours.
